Contrary to popular belief time does not heal all wounds. A deeper look into what time is and isn’t capable of doing will help you in your own journey of healing.
I used to live my life subscribed to the worldly wisdom that time would somehow heal all of my pain. I learned that it’s not the time that was healing me, but what I decided to do with the time that I was given. Let me help you to understand how time can work in your favor in your process of healing.
This post is for the girl who’s just allowing time to pass so she can feel better and live again. I want to help you live and not just exist. May this wisdom shift the power that was given to time and place it back in the hands of the Creator holds time in His very being.
I pray that this post touches you to your very core and that you allow me the honor to journey with you as you heal. Lastly, my prayer for us is that the encouragement that you need to lean into healing be received and beneficial to you.
This post is all about how time does not heal all wounds.
Time Does Not Heal
Time Makes The Pain Hurt A Little Less
Have you ever noticed how the pain of a heartache that was in the past doesn’t hurt as bad as it used to? Or maybe that childhood trauma from being rejected by a parent or the broken friendship that you didn’t want to end doesn’t feel as painful as it once did? Unfortunately, just because the pain isn’t as prevalent doesn’t mean healing has taken place. Time has the ability to cause one to forget every single detail of the hurt, betrayal, trauma or pain. However, time can’t heal the affects of that trauma only God can. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. Time tends to help us suppress our emotions but time doesn’t have the capability to heal or help us to deal with them. That is reserved for God.
Our times is in the hand of God according to Psalm 31:15. Time can be beneficial when you work with allowing yourself time to process your pain. Often times we need time to figure out how we feel and to give it to God. What you do with time makes all the difference. I waited for years for the pain of my past to somehow fade away instead of using my time to properly heal with God. I often fantasized about dying and finally going to heaven to feel relief. That was the red flag for me that time had no power to do anything for me. God is so intentional and strategic that he allows time to work for us. He isn’t slow about His promises concerning you. He’s going to heal those emotional wounds, but He wants to help you deal with it and not suppress it.
Abba Is Creative With Time
Time wouldn’t be able to continue if God didn’t allow for the world to keep spinning. He has the ultimate power to literally stop time with a quickness. Interestingly enough God is creative with time. He doesn’t waste anything. He uses the time between being broken and being healed to teach, grow, mature and love on you. He’s not a sadistic God where He allows you to be in pain and do nothing. However, He will never go against your free will. So in waiting for your heart to be surrendered He uses time and what happens in that time to get your attention. God uses time to your advantage. Whatever pressure you may feel about not being healed or feeling so low because you can’t get out of a dark place, shake it off! He’s your safe refuge. He cares for you and about you.
I’m not this perfect person who has it all together. God has peeled me back like an onion to deal with the different layers of my trauma. He’s used so many resources to help me heal. Prayer, therapy, deliverance, and inner healing was what He chose to use for me. Your healing journey may look completely different from mine and that’s okay. I’ve ran, cried, rebelled, and suppressed but through it all Abba has been my anchor. He is your anchor and your safe place, trust Him.
Time shows God’s faithfulness and His goodness.
Release Yourself From The Deadline of Time
You are not on a time frame. Rest assured God has you where He needs you. Tune out the voices of what the world says about healing and where you should be at. Focus in on your Father’s voice. What God has started in you He is faithful to complete. Healing is messy and it’s complicated. No two persons journey of healing looks the same and that’s okay. Release yourself from comparison and competition. Along with knowing about why time does not heal you can began to move at your own pace, the pace that you and God have decided upon.
Of course healing isn’t always easy but it’s worth it. The journey of healing is a beautiful thing when you do it with the Lord. I pray that what I have laid out about time has given you a new perspective to just take joy in your process of healing. May God give you beauty for your ashes and may He heal every wound in your heart. His love is enough to heal you and make you whole.
