Worship shifts your whole vibe in an instant. If you’re having a bad day or just frustrated with how things are going throw your hands up in worship.
There has been days where I’m completely overwhelmed with motherhood, marriage and my healing journey. In those times I just wanted to run away and never look back, but then I remembered to worship. If that’s where you are currently or where you have been let me encourage you to worship through it all even when it makes no sense to worship.
This blog post is meant to show you how choosing to worship over anxiety, fear, and frustrations will shift you. Your mindset and focus will shift from your problems to the One who has the answers for your problems.
May the truth of what worship will do for you push you to respond in worship every single time something or someone disrupts your peace.
This post is all about how and why worship shifts you.
Worship Shifts Your focus
Fix Your Eyes On Jesus
No one wakes up expecting their day to just go horrible. Have you ever woke up and declared that you were going to have a good day?! Then boom out of nowhere your kids, husband, a family member, or your boss does something that completely throws your whole mood off! Your first response probably isn’t to worship. I know I’ve had many days where I’ve woken up to chaos and my humanity responds before I can catch up lol. First, don’t feel ashamed if your responses to problems have been less than ideal. There is no condemnation in Christ. Going forward I challenge you to respond in worship to your problems. Despite what people tend to believe, worship is more than singing songs to and about God. It should be noted that worship is a lifestyle.
When you worship, Jesus is glorified because you’re no longer worrying and stressing over your problems but you recognize that you have authority in Jesus over your mountain. It takes a lot of energy to cry over a problem or to get mad. What’s more effective is using that energy to cry out to your Father not just about how you need help, but in praise and gratitude to Him. Acknowledging Him in all of His glory shifts things off of you and unto Him. I’m reminded of the story of David and Saul in 1 Samuel 16:14-22. Saul was dealing with a tormenting spirit and as David played the harp Saul felt better. To worship is also to feel refreshed. Imagine living a life of worship where worry, fear, pain and torment can’t stick because your response is to worship.
Worship Is Not Just For Sundays
I’m going to put myself on blast for a moment. I used to feel so good during church service and then through out the rest of the week I would feel so low. Honestly, it was because I wasn’t taking worship with me throughout the week. I mean I listened to worship music. I thought that was enough, but I found out quickly it wasn’t. Did you know that when you honor God with your body it’s also worship to Him? 1 Corinthians 6:20 says you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. To glorify Him is to worship Him. When I read that scripture I thought that meant to keep myself from sexual sin. I was wrong that’s one part to it, but your body has several parts. My mouth was quick with petty and mean rebuttals. I was using my mouth as a weapon of division and strife and not to glorify God. Changing the way I spoke was just as vital as reading my bible, signing worship songs and praying.
Maybe you are where I was or you’re just trying to understand what it means to worship God in a more practical way. I encourage you to look at all parts of your life and figure out where you can develop a deeper worship to God. Worshiping with other believers on Sunday is great, but you can also experience that peace and contentment every day of the week when you yield to God in worship through your lifestyle. When we choose to honor God in every facet of our lives we glorify Him.
Worship Music
Studies have shown that music can positively affect a person’s body and brain. Proverbs 18:21 in the English Standard Version says death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit. Intentionally choosing the right music matters. I want to go a step further and say having an appetite for worship music is a good thing. On one end of the spectrum it’s positive in its message, but it also glorifies the Father. I’m not saying that there isn’t any other music that’s positive in nature that you can’t listen to. However, worship music shifts your overall mind to not just be positive but to praise God in all of His holiness and splendor.
Sis, when life is overwhelming or you don’t quite have the words put on a worship song. Watch how your atmosphere aligns with what’s being sung. When you choose to worship even in the midst of panic and frustration you legit confuse the enemy. What the enemy sent to cause you to retreat can’t prosper. Even if you don’t feel like worshipping, do it anyway because you send confusion into hell when he sees that everything that was meant to break you didn’t. In 2 Chronicles chapter 20 Jehoshaphat and the Israelites worshipped God and confusion was sent into their enemies camp where they began to fight and kill one another. When the army of Judah got there all their enemies was dead. That’s the kind of God we serve, One who will cause confusion to the enemy camp when he comes against you.
